text highlighted, binding tight, edge wear, paperback, The Hawaii Catholic Herald, 1997, 267 pages Additional Details ------------------------------ Product description: Father Edwin Duffy was my pastor at St. Pius X Church in Manoa in the early 1980's when he retired. Attending his Masses on Sundays, I had come to enjoy the stories and anecdotes he brought to his homilies. They were full of insight and the human experience. He was a master at filtering the stream of everyday events, from the most personal to the global, through the prism of his solid faith. So, when he retired, I invited him to contribute his observations as short reflections for the front pages of the Hawaii Catholic Herald. And faithfully for the past 12 years, I have been receiving regularly in the mail, his handwritten thoughts in blue ball point ink on lined notebook paper. Father Duffy’s Reflections come from a person in awe of God’s abundant mercy and constant presence. But he also speaks in troubled tones about a society which too easily rejects God in favor of violence, money, self-gratification, and selfishness. This stories come from his life as a war veteran, priest, confessor, counselor, and observer of the times. This book contains most of the reflections he has written over the past 12 years. Although they were originally published in the Hawaii Catholic Herald without titles, they were given titles for this compilation. Father Duffy has also expanded some of the shorter ones. They do not run here in any particular order, by preference of the author, making them amenable to random browsing and inspirational meandering. Read, ponder and enjoy.
