What is San Antonio? 

So many things! 

San Antonio is fiestas, freeways and football; tourists and conventions; opera, theater and art; symphonies and sunshine; beauty and bustling big business; pageants, parades, and pictures out of the past.

San Antonio is the gaiety of the Paseo Del Rio on a summer evening cafes, shops, paddle boats and barges; dixieland jazz, flamenco rhythms, strolling singers and mariachi guitars.

San Antonio is the soft sounds of Spanish together with a Texas twang; as American as the cowboy, as continental as a quaint European village.

San Antonio is the look of leafy pecans along the river, the beauty of blue bonnets in the spring, the feel of the first "norther" in the fall.

San Antonio is a special place. A place of which the residents are fiercely proud and a place with which all visitors fall in love.

Founded in 1718 by Spanish missionaries and settlers from the Canary Islands, San Antonio has lived under six flags. 

It was the scene of historic battles of great significance to our country. Its past was one of a roisterous "Wild West" town where drovers assembled for the long, dangerous Chisolm Trail ride to Kansas.
