Charles stepped into the park, his heart beating fast under his doublet.

 The note from Lady Blanche burned in his pocket. Meet me at the grove by St. James's - she had written. 

He felt his pulse mount as he saw a dim figure standing still and quietly by the pond. 

She was there. At last the moment had come ..

Suddenly from nowhere four more forms appeared in the gloom. They came to- ward him, silently, menacingly, closing in to form an arc. Charles stopped, petrified. 

These were men - masked men with swords drawn and they were closing in for the kill! 

Panic ran through him as he snatched his own weapon from its scabbard. The woman he loved had betrayed him...

Book is in acceptable condition. General shelf and corner wear. Cover fraying along the edges. Light staining on interior and exterior. Some wear at the top and bottom of spine (see photo #3).
