is the triumphant spirit inspired by a great hymn. "I will sing with the spirit and with the understanding also," wrote Paul to the Corinthians.

Our "understanding" of the hymns we love, of the visions and stories behind them, gives us a new appreciation of their beauty and power. 

Who wrote the poem? 

Who composed the music that carries the words on the wings of song? What is the message?

Just as the morning hymn with its rising melody awakens us, mentally, physically and spiritually, and the evening hymn, like the setting sun with its deeper colorings fading to soft twilight, speaks of rest, quiet and peace, with promise of renewed strength for the next day's work, so, other hymns fit the busy crowded "sunny noon" time of the day.

We know that our beautiful hymns, like great passages from the Bible, when memorized become a vital spiritual force in our lives. 

If STORIES OF HYMNS WE LOVE will stimulate the singing of these old favorites at home and Sunday School, and if this little volume will lead to memorizing and "singing by heart" our best loved hymns, we shall feel richly rewarded. The singing family is a happy and successful family.
