About Blue Zircon : Ratanakiri Zircon is named for its locale, hailing from Ratanakiri (‘gemstone mountain’ in Khmer), a northern Cambodian deposit noted for yielding some of the world’s finest Zircons. Ratnakiri Blue Zircon is well known in the gem trade for its vivid blue colour that results from heat treatment. Increasing natural scarcity combined with growing marketplace demand, intense competition and sporadic production, is decreasing the availability of Ratanakiri Zircon, especially over 2 carat, resulting in increased prices.
Additional Information : Incredibly beautiful, Ratanakiri Zircon has an undeniable ‘je ne sais quoi’. Gemstone writer, Yasukazu Suwa agrees with this view, describing its color as possessing “a character that is not seen elsewhere.” He continues, adding: “If a fancy Blue Diamond showed this color, it might exceed our gemstone budget, so thankfully Ratanakiri Zircon is far more affordable.Ratanakiri Zircon has a sharp brilliance, excellent scintillation (play of light), Diamond-like luster (adamantine) and a high fire that adds both beauty and value (also known as dispersion, this is the splitting of light into its component colors).
About Zircon : It is a precious gemstone that was discovered almost 2000 years ago. Zircon occurs in an array of colors. Its varied palette of yellow, green, red, reddish brown, and blue hues makes it a favorite among collectors as well as informed consumers. The brilliant luster and fire of Zircon, combined with its good hardness and range of colors, make it a most desirable gem.Zircon is a birthstone for the month of December, along with turquoise and tanzanite.
Note : Zircon is sometimes confused with Cubic Zirconia. Cubic Zirconia, a synthetic, inexpensive Diamond simulant, resembles colorless Zircon and has a similar sounding name. However, the two are entirely separate substances, and have no connection with each other.
