I thought it was a snuff box at first but then found the mirror on the underside of the lid.  So it may be a compact.

Hand painted porcelain enamel.  I am not sure of the metal content but it is old and may be sterling.

2 3/4 x 2" and 1" tall.  The lid fits on nicely and is tight.  The mirror has no cracks.  No markings found.
