This adorable alebrije turtle is hand painted with an intricate design in beautiful colors.  It's detailed pattern and shape are unique.  It can be positioned with it's feet and legs over the shelf edge so it looks like it's climbing out of the water, or with just it's tail over the edge so it looks like it's on a rock in the sun, or balanced on a flat surface so it looks like it's leaning. Carved from copal wood and signed by Neftalí Martinez Villanueva from the town of Viguera in Oaxaca Mexico.  This artist belongs to the tribus mixes group, and the piece seems to be dated from 98.  There are some minor scratches with age.  See photos.  It's about roughly 8"x5"x5".
