American troops played an important part in the capture of Louisbourg but the colonists were disgusted when the important Cape Breton port was returned to France at the end of the war. Lewisburg was subsequently recaptured by the British during the 7 years war. The original of this picture is a contemporary colored line engraving from the Beverly R Robinson collection in the US Naval Academy museum.
