Philippe was born in 1165. It is the only son of Louis VII the Younger and his third wife Adele of Champagne. King at age 15, it must first confront its turbulent neighbors, the Counts of Champagne and Flanders and the Duke of Burgundy, a conflict that ended with the Treaty of Boves in 1185.
