Now I want to be completely honest about this. The letters from James Yarnall are genuine, although I seem to remember him contacting me later and expressing some doubts about his opinion. La Farge would only have been ten years old in 1845, but Yarnall said he was painting at that tender age. On the other hand, the date isn't very clear. It could say 1895. I don't know whether Yarnall included the work in the raisonne, or if that was ever published. I always back authenticity for the paintings I sell. But this one, I must leave up to the buyer. If you decide it's a genuine La Farge, you have got yourself a real bargain. The letters will be forwarded with the painting.
