Antique Thai Style bronze Ayutthaya standing Protection Buddha statue.

The Buddha is is stood samabhanga on a large double lotus leaf pedestal. The lotus flower represents purity, compassion and the giving of great joy to all. 

The figure is remarkable for its realistic yet delicate delineation of the limbs and the robe which seems to cling to the body.

The garment (sanghati) covers both shoulders. The enlightened Buddha is depicted with his right hand in the Abhaya mudra offering protection to the devotee. The Abhaya mudra "gesture of fearlessness" is a mudra (gesture) that offers protection, reassurance and safety. Dispelling fear and according divine protection and bliss in many Indian religions. The hand is held upright, and the palm is facing outwards. This is one of the earliest mudras found depicted on a number of Hindu, Buddhist and Jain images. 

A very naturalistic succession of wavy folds on the surface of his body revealing the soft contours of the body underneath. His face is handsome with a slight smile and straight aquiline nose.

The Buddha has a peaceful countenance with downcast introspective eyes and a firm brow. His earlobes are stretched long from a youth spent as a prince wearing heavy gold earrings. The casting is beautiful as you can see in the fine details of the face and fingers. Each detail is rendered perfectly.
