Written by a Louisiana engineer, this book gives a factual account of the war between the states as it occurred in the bayou country of Louisiana, where armed steamboats and shallow draught gunboats blasted away at each other in narrow streams, while infantry, cavalry and artillery were engaged in bloody conflicts along the picturesque countryside.  This was likely the first book devoted to providing a detailed account of this area of the Civil War. There are illustrations by a Louisiana native, as well as maps from old Civil War histories, references and a index. The author has written a dedication and separately signed the book on the half-title page.  This copy is in excellent condition, with barely any signs of wear; the jacket has a 3" irregular tear down from the top of the spine, but otherwise has just a few minor defects - for the most part, in pretty sharp condition.
