Here's a nice little Commodore George Dewey commemorative spoon. It has a very nice image of him on the uppermost top of the spoon, surrounded by leaf filigree and an American flag to the left with a ribbon underneath his image stating, "Commodore Dewey". In the bowl there is a depiction of Dewey's flag ship, "Olympia" and some historical notes. On the stem in back is stamped the word "standard", meaning it was created from coin silver.
George Dewey was Admiral of the Navy, the only person in United States history to have attained the rank. He is best known for his victory at the Battle of Manila Bay during the Spanish–American War, with the loss of only a single crewman on the American side. Dewey was born December 26, 1837, Montpelier, Vermont.
Coin silver (900): Since it is only 90% silver, this alloy cannot be referenced as sterling. Items made from this alloy may include marks such as 900, Coin, and Standard.
