Following the homecoming of two adolescent siblings from a mental hospital after the death of their mother. Su-mi is older and more assertive, while the younger Su-yeon is more timid, closer in character to their gray-haired father, Moo-hyeon, who seems distracted to the point of not being there.
Moo-hyeon is now re-married, unhappily it seems, to the sleekly catty Eun-joo, whose behavior veers between icy arrogance and girlishly hysterical as she subtly challenges her husband's eldest daughter for pride of place in the household.
Su-mi soon notices that not all is right in the house--first by an unnatural accumulation of coincidences, then by nightmares and waking encounters with a broken-necked ghost-woman--which may point to the presence of the original mother's unrestful spirit, to someones pent up psychic energies testing their boundaries (whose?), or something else entirely.
The deliberately vague, elliptic narrative builds to a Third Act surprise which radically overhauls our perception of all the characters we have met and everything we have understood to be true within the story--a goosebumpy eureka!
