Retired 2006 Spode Toile de Jouy Blue Room Collection Lucano Bridge Tall Coffee Mug

Originally offered for sale in 2006, Spode's Blue Room Collection Lucano Tall Coffee Mug is now retired and becoming increasingly difficult to find.  Named for the display room at the Spode factory where a wide assortment of blue and white transferware was exhibited, the Blue Room collection features Spode archival patterns that originate from the 18th century and feature floral designs as well as famous places and scenery like the Lucano Bridge near Tivoli in Italy.  The intricate borders are taken from engravings in the Spode archive.  The view featured on this 4-5/8 inch tall tapered mug was probably based on the aquatint of The Bridge of Lucano by James Merigot, published in 1798 in" A Select Collection of Views and Ruins in Rome and Its Vicinity - Executed from Drawings Made Upon the Spot in the Year 1791".  The blue and white designs which were made famous by the original Spode earthenware patterns are still produced today and used to be processed by blue under glaze printing on earthenware from hand engraved copper plates.  This mug is in clean pre owned condition and appears unused, measuring 4-5/8 inches tall by 3-3/4 inches in diameter at the mouth, tapering down to 2-3/4 inches at the base.
