An invisible alien (Dick Sands) crash-lands on Earth in a flying saucer near a large US observatory and kils two men and some innocent picknickers. The killings alert cop Harry Landers and scientists Rudolph Anders & Lela Nelson, who find the fatal flaw in the alien's make-up: to breathe Earth's atmosphere he has to wear a helmet containing air from his own world.

Anders & Nelson lure the alien into their observatory and put him in an infra-red light machine, which makes him visible. They then remove his helmet and in the ensuing chase, the alien must make his way back to his ship in order to survive.
