About the design:

This wood carving artwork depicts the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and the Chaste Heart of Saint Joseph. The Sacred Heart of Jesus symbolizes Christ's infinite love for mankind, displaying wounds on its flanks, while the crown of thorns represents the wounds caused by our sins. A cross is embedded within the heart to represent the suffering Christ endured during his life and passion. This image was revealed to the French nun Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque in the 17th century through a series of revelations from Jesus.

The Immaculate Heart, mentioned in St. Luke's writings, signifies Mary's preservation of all the things she learned from being Jesus' mother (Luke 2:51). It represents her love for Christ and the world, despite being pierced by the sword, as foretold in Simeon's prophecy (Luke 2:35). The image portrays a burning heart surrounded by roses, similar to the image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
