West Indies China Small Colonial Indian Raj Elephant Pattern 9 inch Square Orange Luncheon Salad Plate
This is a new old stock discontinued pattern called West Indies made by the made by a company called "China". This pattern was issued in 2008 and discontinued circa 2012. This Victorian style pattern recalls the Colonial days of the British Raj in India. The plate measures 9 inches square and can be paired with the 11-5/8 inch square dinner plates offered in another listing. This wonderful decorative plate can be displayed on a decorative plate stand or hung on the wall or just used as a serving dish or as a traditional salad or dessert plate setting.
It is brightly colored and has a nice exotic theme with the elephant outfitted in a elaborate Indian Howdah, the carriage positioned on the back of an elephant, used to carry wealthy people during progresses or processions, hunting or in warfare. It was also a symbol of wealth for the owner and as a result might be elaborately decorated, even with expensive gemstones. The vibrant colors are golds, oranges and greens along with black and would be wonderful for a Bohemian fall table setting. This plate is the perfect gift for any elephant lover!
