Aeonium arboreum (Tree Aeonium) - A nice medium-green succulent which forms branched stems 3 feet tall, looking like a miniature tree. Rosettes are formed at the ends of the stems. Yellow flowers form long clusters in mid spring to early summer. It grows in full sun near the coast and partial shade inland. Water occasionally to infrequently. Hardy to 27 degrees F. This plant is great along the ocean and tolerates drought and is reportedly resistant to deer predation. While not as unique as the red leafed selections this plant is a great addition to the garden where a green foliage plant is wanted and its tall bare stems holding the flatted rosettes can be appreciated. Aeonium arborescens is native to Gran Carnaria Island in the Canary Islands. The information on this page is based on our library and online research as well as observations made of this plant as it grows in our nursery, in the nursery garden and in other gardens that we have visited. We have also incorporated comments received from others and always appreciate getting feedback of any kind from those who have some additional information, in particular if this information is contrary to what we have written or includes additional cultural tips that would aid others in growing Aeonium arboreum.
