Echeveria
Fireball Echeveria is named for the stunning burgundy tint it’s leaves take on in strong light. Echeveria are originally from the Central America semi-desert and can be kept as indoor or outdoor plants in warm areas. These hearty beauties can have red blossoms in the spring, and will re-seed if left to their own devices. Like all succulents, for best results plant in high drainage soil and place in a high light area.
Light
To maintain their vibrant coloring and compact rosette shape Fireball Echeveria require very high light conditions so you will want to place yours in a Western or Southern facing window. You can also use a grow light to supplement. We reccomend these if you need a grow light bulb. Your plant can get sun burned if you put it directly into strong light, so transition your plant slowly into a high light location after unpacking and for any future location changes.
Water
Echeveria require very little water. For best results plant in a small well-draining shallow container with cactus mix or a blend of potting soil and sand, and moderately dry soil. Water the soil and avoid getting too much on the plant, then allow the soil to dry completely before watering again. Your schedule will vary depending on the conditions in your home but typically about once every 2 - 6 weeks. The most common issues people have with this species are from over watering.
Fertilizing
To keep your Echeveria happy you can occasional apply a liquid succulent fertilizer weekly
Long Term Care
Echeveria can become scraggly if they have to reach for light, but this wild look can be tamed by re-rooting and propagating them. If this happens, contact the Urban Sprouts staff and we’ll help you through the process.
Pet info
Fireball Echeveria are not toxic to animals or people. They are even used on occasion as decoration on cakes but should not be consumed as they don’t take very good.
