Charles D. Williams (1875-1954) was born in New York City. In 1893 he started illustrating for Chicago newspapers. He then went from the Chicago newspapers to The Saturday Evening Post. He created five covers for The Saturday Evening Post.  

His illustrations appeared in national magazines, such as Collier's, The Saturday Evening Post, American, and The Ladies Home Journal.

After his tenure at The Saturday Evening Post Williams went back to New York City, bought an art studio, and began his freelance career.  Williams became a founding member of the Society of Illustrators of New York in 1910. He began teaching illustration in 1939 at the National Academy of Design. After World War II he retired from illustration to paint portraits. Williams died at his home in Englewood, New Jersey.
