Dittany of Crete is a native plant of Crete and belongs to the family Lamiaceae and the genus origanum.
The ancient Greeks considered it a panacea and used it in folk medicine.
Also known on the island as erontas, stop grass or pitcher grass seems to have been used already by the Minoans
It grows naturally on the island of Crete but is cultivated for its wonderful tea, as a spice, and as spice.
