December 21, 1970, the King of Rock and Roll Elvis Presley stepped off an American Airlines flight in Washington D.C. and instructed his driver to take him to Pennsylvania Avenue, to the White House for an impromptu meeting with then President Richard Nixon. Elvis had written the President a letter during his flight from L.A. expressing his interest in the anti-drug campaigns. He arrived at the White House, handed the secret service the letter, and was taken inside to meet with the President. The King of Rock was wearing a purple suit complete with purple cape. President Nixon admired the King's jewelry and they posed for this photo op together. A moment captured in history in this vintage frame.
