This is for a very rare final updated version of the Mercedes W123 radiator grill badge. All of the early versions were dull aluminum with painted enamel on a textured design. There is no clear info from Mercedes about this change at the end of production. 

In this last run of these emblems Mercedes made a very modern heavy jewel quality badge. You can see and feel the difference. This badge is brass, chrome and glazed enamel. The outer ring is also completely smooth.
