Close look at Minka - Traditional Japanese Country Homes
This book shows close-up views of traditional Japanese Homes, known as Minka.
It includes examples of many of the most important configurations, as well as illustrations showing the elevations side by side. Also, it zeros in on important details, such as roofs, walls, gates, doors, window, ceilings. It includes beautiful examples of exquisite Japanese thatched roofs. The book also includes a map showing where the various types can be found.
Architectural preservation is not strongly pursued in Japan, like it is in Europe, for example. As a result, minka are rapidly fading away from the Japanese landscape. Fine examples are now rare, and are almost non existent in major cities.
