IN-ARTIF-1 Type: Greenbrier Age: 9,500 B.P. - 9,000 B.P. Measurements L. 3-7/8" W. 1-1/2" Material: Brown Dover Chert Provenance: Tennessee River, Benton Co. Tennessee Comments: A fine, large example of this early type. Spectrographic comparison of this point with a Pinetree point (8,000 B.P.) from near the Pinetree type site shows that the Greenbrier type precedes the Pinetree in time. The Greenbrier point pictured here is an authentic artifact of the Early Archaic Period. Heavy Tennessee River stain with muscle shell eggs still attached. This appears to be a first stage Greenbriar with only the first sharpening. The fine edge work is top notch. A VERY VERY THIN piece. The 10th Edition of Overstreet has 2 Greenbriars about this same size, listed from $1500-2500. Tom Davis C.O.A. included, #49873, dated 6/4/07. He graded it a "10".
