Cobalt Blue Floral Mexican Folk Art Talavera Ceramic Pottery Hand Painted Cancun Mexico Day of the Dead Sugar Skull Dia de Los Muertos 5 inches

This beautiful cobalt blue Dia de los Muertos Sugar Skull is colorful, fun, and beautifully detailed, full of eye-catching style, and made to stand out anywhere it is displayed.  This is handmade Mexican Talavera pottery, called a Calavera, carefully hand painted in a vibrant floral design with birds.  This particular Calavera is from Cancun, Mexico and is marked across the brow of the skull.  Talavera pottery is hand made using a specific red clay from central Mexico and is never mass produced.  The skull is in clean, well maintained pre owned condition with no cracks or chips.  It's striking design is full of intricate brush strokes featuring many details.  This skull measures 5 inches long by 3 inches wide by 3.5 inches tall.

Place this little skull on the ofrenda where it can greet guests and offer a welcome to those who have passed.  In Mexico, a Calavera is a representation of a human skull and the term is applied to edible or decorative skulls made by hand from either sugar or clay that are used in the Mexican celebration of the Day of the Dead and the Roman Catholic holiday All Souls' Day.  The skulls are created either for children or as offerings to be placed on altars known as ofrendas for the Día de Muertos, which has roots in the Aztec, Mayan, and Toltec cultural celebration of the Day of the Dead.  Talavera Art is always Handmade and Hand-Painted by skilled artisans in Mexico, therefore no two pieces are exactly alike.  As with any hand made item, please expect some slight imperfections and/or variations.
