Set in the Civil War period, one of the purposes of this story is to illustrate the power of a young girl not so beautiful or so good as many of her sisters. She was rather commonplace at first, but circumstances led her to the endeavor to be true to her own nature and conscience and to adopt a very simple scheme of life.

Condition - This book has some wear on the outside binding.  There are also some wear marks and staining on the outside front and back covers. This book is very old and it's age is apparent but appropriate. However, amazingly, the binding is still in good condition and the inside pages are still intact, unmarked, and our opinion is that this book is in incredible condition for being 136 years old.

If you're looking for a book written in the post-Civil War era as well as an untouched artifact representing this by-gone era, this novel may be for you.
