A 1906 mystery set in the English countryside and the West Indies. Dan Sweetland, on the day of his wedding, is falsely accused of shooting the gamekeeper of the Middlecott preserves. Dan had done some poaching the night before, but was miles away from Middlecott. Damaging evidence puts Dan at the scene of the crime, and when the gamekeeper dies from his injuries, Dan is arrested for the crime. The rest of the plot focuses on Dan's escape and his wife Minnie's attempt to clear his name. Daniel swears his innocence and his new wife sets out to clear his name as he goes on the run, an exile which sees him escape to the Caribbean where he fall into a lively adventure involving a murderous Obeah Man.
