ROSENTHAL 1967 Christmas Plate
CHRISTMAS in REGENSBURG is the title of the 1967 Rosenthal Christmas Plate. Regensburg is located in Bavaria in southern Germany at the confluence of the Danube and Regen rivers. The large medieval center of the city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The skyline is dominated by the twin towers (105 meters or 345 feet tall) of St. Peter’s Cathedral, constructed 1280 to 1520. The Stone Bridge (lower left) was built 1135–46. For centuries it was the only bridge over the Danube between Ulm and Vienna, making Regensburg a major trade center. Hand painted ("handgemalt") under the glaze in shades of blue, gray, yellow, brown and tan. The central scene is banded with gold, and bears the inscription WEIHNACHTEN 1967 (Christmas Night 1967).
