Antique EAPG Opalescent GOOFUS Glass "Cabbage Rose" Pickle Jar Vase

PLEASE NOTE~ The paint has all but worn away on this piece, so there are just scattered specks here and there.

Beautiful old Goofus glass antique vase features a relief embossed cabbage rose floral pattern. At one time it was painted, but the paint has all but worn away, leaving only a few scattered specks. Not certain of the maker, but it dates back to the late 1800s to the early 1900s

Goofus glass is pressed glass which was decorated with unfired enamel paint in the early 20th century,

manufactured by several prominent glass companies and was relatively cheap.

Originally given as premiums at carnivals, Goofus Glass was made from about 1890 to 1920 or so. Because it was cheaply made and cold painted, the paint chips easily. Thus, the

popular name of this glass with unavoidable imperfections became Goofus Glass. It was the first carnival glass, preceding the iridized product known today as carnival glass. It

was the first type of carnival glass given away at movie theaters, carnivals, and as premiums for just about any major purchase, since it was relatively cheap to

make.  Plates, bowls, vases (like this one), and even oil lamps were made in mass quantities.

GOOD VINTAGE CONDITION ~ There is a quarter inch hairline at the rim of the vase. Actually appears to have possibly been that way since manufacture. A few rough spots/flea bites may be found along the rim. No other nicks, chips, cracks, flea bites, or damage to the glass.

Measures approx. 7" tall.
