With birds etched and pressed into the glass and linear designs throughout, the Byrdes Crystal Collection of Germany lends both a sparklingly beautiful and useful touch to your home’s décor.
Hofbauer began producing its crystal in the late 1970’s to early 1980’s and advertised that it was “Fashioned by the finest craftsmen of West Germany” and was “hand-cut, acid polished and containing over 24% lead for crystal clarity and superb ring”….. The crystal was made in a variety of shapes and sizes and although most collectors are familiar with their vases, candy dishes, trinket boxes and bowls did you know Hofbauer also produced lamps, picture frames, butter dishes and even a clock, all featuring their bird logo? Most pieces can be found either clear or with ruby flashing surrounding the birds (and in the case of bells, on the birds) but less common are pieces with yellow, blue and purple flashing, which are also less sought after.
Sadly the Hofbauer factory burnt down in the mid 1990’s and was not rebuilt. A company named Amaris picked up where Hofbauer left off and produced the Byrdes crystal line for 2-3 years (mostly with red flashing) and then the German company Nachtmann began their own line.
This particular vase still retains its original labels. On the exterior is an "Amaris by Nachtmann" clear label with blue lettering. On the interior is a small yellow circular label which reads "BLEIKRISTALL 24% Made in Germany".
