I ESCAPED FROM DEVIL's ISLAND: Jim Brown, Christopher George, Richard Ely as a gay prisoner, and James Luis as his lover escape from Devil's Island in 1918 on a raft and hide in the jungle. This attempt to cash in on 'Papillon' was directed by a veteran of many serials. It features alligators, a shark attack, hostile Amazon natives, a leper colony, plus lots of shooting and death. The music is by Les Baxter. This United Artist release was shot in the Philippines.
FINAL OPTION: Also known as 'Who Dares Wins', this rare military movie makes its explosive debut on DVD for the first time ever in North America. An elite Special Air Service captain takes the ultimate risk when he infiltrates a terrorist organization in order to thwart a plan to take several dignitaries hostage.
Inspired by the real-life operations of counter-terrorist SAS forces that succesfully relieved the Iranian Embassy around the time. It should manage to offend anybody -- punk, pacifist or policeman -- inclined to take seriously the subject of global security. The entertainment is thick and some of the dialogue and performances have to be seen to be believed.
SHAKE HANDS WITH the DEVIL: In 1921 Dublin a surgeon is the secret leader of the IRA, and comes to cherish violence as an end rather than a means. Gripping drama of war-torn Ireland, with American student trying to stay aloof, but, drawn by circumstances, he joins rebel army led by iron-willed James Cagney. Politically very questionable but well made with striking B&W full frame photography shot on location.
TREASURE of the FOUR CROWNS: Full frame 2-D version, this was originally shown in 3-D. Writers-producers-stars Tony Anthony and Gene Quintano, who gave the world 'Comin' at Ya!' in 3-D, blend elements of 'Mission: Impossible' and 'Raiders of the Lost Ark' to depict adventurers stealing valuable crystals from a cult of religious nuts. These jewels have magical and atomic powers of "good or evil", depending on who owns them. There's very little dialogue, but lots of FX thrust at the audience (skeletons, fireballs, a spinning head) and impressive sets including a haunted castle.
This feature only includes an audio commentary option.
