Vol. 5 from the profusely illustrated epic series recording the results of the excavations in Samothrace undertaken by the Archaeological Research Fund Expedition of the Institute of Fine Arts, New York University, originally under the direction of the late Professor Karl Lehmann, whose work was carried on by Phyllis W. Lehmann.

The excitement (and rigor) of Classical Archeaology comes alive in thoroughly produced renderings of excavations at Samothrace, an island in the Aegean Sea. The Temenos is a site among at least twenty others in the restored "Sanctuary of the Great Gods" which included an amphitheater and several temples. Though a complete introduction reveals the overall context of the work, the volumes are a deep dive into the building and what was found there: sculpture, pottery, friezes, and architectural carvings. All professionally measured in complete context.
Good overall. Dust jacket soiling and moisture staining, good binding, light text soiling, musty smelling. Good bindings, text clean and crisp. Each measures 8 7/8"w x 11 7/8". A nice find.
