A history of the Newmark family of California by American physician Leo Newmark (1861-1943), assembled from his notes by his editors after his death. The Newmarks were a Jewish family that originated in Prussia. Patriarch J.P. [Joseph Phillip] Newmark (1827-1895) emmigrated to Los Angeles in 1851. His younger brother Harris (1834-1916) and his uncle Joseph Newmark (1799-1881) and his family eventually followed. J.P. later established a successful commission business in San Francisco. Newmark makes some insightful observations into some of the early California families that he grew up around, as well as his own. He was well-traveled, and met many famous people like Ambrose Bierce and Louis Pasteur. They are also related to the famous Loeb family. Has a few family photographs. A great book for researching this noted California family. There is FREE SHIPPING to USA on this item.
