Clearance: MSRP $139.00, selling at Dealer Price $76.45 Mainstays of the Viking era, Spangenhelms are characterized by their construction whereby steel strips (spangen) are used to join the steel plates of the cap. Developed with the assistance of -Viking reenactors the GDFB Spangenhelm reconstruction is essentially one piece; comprised of two halves welded together along a back to front center line. Steel rivets are then used to attach the reinforcing bands and 3mm (14 gauge) steel nasal guard. Constructed using 1.6mm (16 gauge) mild steel and incorporating an adjustable leather liner and chin strap with authentic buckle the GDFB Spangenhelm is both comfortable and safe. Wear with a padded arming cap for cushioning. The last photo is of a surviving 6th C Spangenhelm in Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna.
