Memories - Richard Schmid - Signed & Numbered Ltd Ed Print, Framed Under Glass

This is an early acquisition in my collection of prints; in fact, it is still hanging in my living room. It’s overall size (framed)  is 40 inches W x 33 inches L. It is a signed and numbered limited edition by Schmid, and probably one of his most famous works. The image area is 31 inches W x 33 inches L and is triple matted with enhancing colors. The number of this print is 565 of 850. Unframed, the print is 32 inches x 24 inches.

Here’s some information about Mr. Schmid:
“ Impressionistic, realistic, classical, romantic...while people don’t always agree on how to describe the art of Richard Schmid, there is no mistaking it. Painterly brushstrokes, meticulous composition, subtle tonality and use of luxurious, luminous color set his works distinctly apart. Schmid prefers to paint all prima, completing a work of extreme accuracy in just one sitting. The first brushstrokes blend with the last, conveying the excitement of the artist calls "immediate intimacy." Schmid, born in Chicago in 1934, has spent many years sketching and painting throughout North America, Europe, South America and the Caribbean. His roving nature also applies to his subject matter; restlessly, he captures everything in sight, composing landscapes, nudes, wildlife, still lifes and children’s portraits. Schmid credits his instructors the landscape painter Gianni Cilfone and Professor William Mosby of Chicago’s American Academy of Art for much of his success. But he also acknowledges a debt to the great masters, among them the Spanish portraitists Goya and Velasquez and the Impressionists Cassatt and Manet. Schmid’s work has been widely acclaimed. He has won the Allied Artists of America Gold Medal, the American Watercolor Society Gold Medal, and won the top award in the 1987 National Parks Academy. He has had no less than 41 one-man shows and his work has been exhibited at the National Academy of Design, the Smithsonian, the Gilcrease Institute and the Beijing Exhibition Center in China.

"I painted 'Memories' out of pure enjoyment. Still life can be a manner of portrait, as the objects disclose one's personality. In this case, 'Memories' reveals my love for my family and a dear friend." Published in 1990, it originally sold for $265.00. We can’t inform you of the current market value but given that the price was for the print alone, unframed, and that framing costs are significant, you can readily appreciate this offerings value.

Unless a seller can make a reference to a specific era when describing an item as “vintage” (e.g. vintage 1930’s hat) it’s useless prattle. We use the term sparingly, but for those who like it, we’ll throw it in now and then.

We do not use a “standard shipping” rate for books as many dealers do. That term usually means they’ve inflated the shipping charge; this, in turn, marginalizes the bargain you thought you were getting. And speaking of books: The grading system used by many sellers to describe their books can be, despite best efforts and intent, subjective and often disappointing. You’ll only find high quality material here:  most are new or like new. Occasionally, there’s minor shelf wear or a publisher’s remainder mark, but the integrity of the book’s condition is unaltered.
BOOKS THAT ARE NOT RECENTLY PUBLISHED: A book described  as new but published several years ago is a reference to its condition not it’s chronological publishing date. It may have have minor wear from long term storage but otherwise “look like new”.

Books may be returned but only if not as described

In all instances we try to honestly depict and describe our items.  The lighting on some photos may have been enhanced to correct contrast or adjust brightness  to provide a more accurate visual of an item's details and condition since colors may vary due to a monitor settings.
We offer prints made in the “ traditional” way such as serigraphs, stone lithos etc. because they are limited as opposed to reproductions like digital art such as giclees.
