As elegant as a Grand Lady going to a Ball in the 1940s, and probably nearly as old, this somber woodland scene in shades of green and black has an air of Olde Worlde grace and class. Beautifully set in a carved wood double frame of green and gold, it invites you to consider the silence, the coolness, and the vastness of this corner of Dryad heaven. The ice cold water of the pool reflects back haunting shadows of the trees surrounding it. Is the backdrop a fountain? The aurora borealis? A galaxy far, far away? As you repose in your high wingbacked chair, brandy snifter in your hand, you may contemplate these questions. Hear the muted birdsong, smell the pines, feel the calm. It's a good place!

The painting itself is in excellent condition, no flaking or fading on the paints.  The frame is showing wear.  The cloth has stains and there are gaps between the wood slats.  I will consider selling the painting removed from the frame if you wish to save on shipping. The entire painting measures 19.75 by 17 inches, the canvas alone measures 11.5 by 8.5 inches. (I used measurements you used, in the IS, but I think there's an error, as the painting should be wider than it is tall.)

I am not sure the year this was painted, but it was back when you could purchase a canvas for .29 cents!
