- Description: A beautiful wooden miniature blanket or dower chest having four rectangular feet. The chest is of tung in groove construction and appears to be glued together (this assertion is based on the fact that there is no nails that can be seen within the chest). The chest is painted in a dark green color with the top of the hinged lid being decorated with a hand painted scene depicting a man and a woman holding hands with grass under their feet and trees flanking them. The front of the chest has two panels surrounded by an incised border. The panels similar hand painted very colorful floral decoration. The interior of the chest is lined with light green material having a repeating floral pattern. The bottom of the box has four thin rectangular feet one at each corner. The piece is signed and dated on the underside. The piece comes with an index card having the text "Green box from Germany shown at Women's Club Malvern, Feb.1987" written in cursive calligraphy. The index card is also adorned with a purple ribbon having a golden seal which says "THE MONDAY AFTERNOON CLUB OF MALVERN PA; CHARTERED MARCH 15, 1920" as shown in the last photo. The piece is signed L.C. Mitchell 1976; Box Germany 1976 in black or dark blue on the bottom. Please carefully review the photos as they are part and parcel of our description.

The inside lining is also intact and all there with no losses.
