Antique Gilbert 8 Day Mantle Clock In Running Condition ~1917~
|
This nice old clock was made by the Wm. L. Gilbert Clock Co. in Winstead, Conn., USA right around 1917 and is in good shape for its age.
The signed Gilbert movement is running and gonging properly and is dated 1917. It counts each hour on a cathedral style gong and then announces each half hour with a single bell chime.
The case is structurally sound. The finish has been cleaned up, but there are plenty of minor handle marks which give it good character. The wood-type half columns are original, but have been restained over the years, and the pediments that hold them in place have been repainted. The feet have also been repainted to match.
The paper part of the dial has been replaced, but the rest of the dial/bezel assembly is original. The brass bezel is tarnished from age.
This clock is complete with key and pendulum and is ready to place up on the mantle and enjoy.
The case measures approx. 17" wide x 11" high x 6" deep.
If your payment needs to be delayed, that will be fine as long as you stay in close contact with us, and send it when you say you're going to. We accept Paypal, plus others. Any payment that requires time to process (clear) will delay shipping. Email with questions concerning other forms of payment.
Most clocks will be shipped within 5 business days of received payment. We like to give each clock sold a final test run and observation before packing. This helps insure that the new owner will have a satifying experience. All items are carefully packaged with around 1 1/2" of packing material between your purchase and the box. All items are shipped insured. We never anticipate damage but in the event that an incident occurs, we will help with insurance claims as much as possible. Be very sure to save all packaging material if there is a problem. Normally, all shipping costs are based on actual price for estimated weight plus a minimal fee for packaging material and insurance. In rare instances there may be a flat rate shipping price quoted. Smaller items can be combined to save shipping costs.
Because clocks require large boxes, priority mail is expensive. We quote USPS Parcel Post and UPS Ground in most cases. ***For any shipments other than the lower 48 United States contact us first for a shipping quote. Do not go by the shipping calculator.
All sales are final, (with the exception noted below). We try to keep an excellent feedback rating by being fair and honest. We try to describe all items accurately so that you pretty much know exactly what to expect when your purchase arrives. It should be understood before bidding that all antique clocks, unless otherwise noted, have knicks, scratches, tarnished brass, stains and dents which are normally aquired from long term honest use. It is nearly impossible to find one in "mint" condition. If a clock has damage from misuse, it will be noted. If a clock is sold as "in running condition", it means that we have test ran it before listing it and feel confident that it will run for you. If a clock is running properly when it arrives,... thats about the best we can do. We cannot guarantee that a clock will not break down, but will not sell anything that we expect to break down without noting that it is being sold as parts or for restoration. In the event that you are not happy, please first go back and read the description to make sure that the item was not misrepresented, and then email us. If we missed seeing some hidden damage, we will refund your money, both purchase price and shipping both ways. ***This does NOT include items sold as parts or not working***(Who knows what might be wrong with things like that)...if it says "as is" it's probably gonna need work.
We are collector/restorers. I have been a member of the NAWCC since 1978. My daughter and I spend quite a bit of time traveling around the northeast buying clocks and clock parts. Many times we are able to buy large quantities from clock makers or clock dealers who are downsizing, or closing out altogether. During the winter months we homeschool, and work together in our family business known as Winding Springs Antique Clock Farm.
You may notice that since joining in 2000 our feedback has been positive. We only receive feedback about a third of the time which means we have actually had several thousand positive transactions over the past 10 years that are not recorded in the feedback system. We would prefer not to deal with anyone who might consider leaving us a negative feedback. We try to describe everything exactly as it is and if we do something wrong, we will make it right. That being said, rather than give us a bad feedback, first give us a chance to return your money. If you email us on Saturday it may not be until Monday before you hear back from us. We do not use our computers on Sunday, the Lord's day, but will answer any emails Monday through Saturday and do whatever we can to resolve any problems. Please do not wait until late in an sale to ask questions. (We may not be here)****Also, please do not ask us to falsify shipping records for international shipping. Honesty is always the best policy.
