Vintage original 13 x 30 in. (33 x 77 cm.) stone lithograph Australian daybill poster from the popular 1960's psycho killer-themed thriller drama, TWISTED NERVE, released in Australia in 1968 by Lion International and directed by Roy Boulting. Martin Durnley (Hywel Bennett) is a troubled young man. With a mother who insists on treating him like a child, a stepfather who can't wait to see the back of him, and a brother with Down's Syndrome shut away in an institution, is it any wonder he retreats into an alternate personality - that of six-year-old Georgie? It is Georgie who befriends Susan Harper (Hayley Mills), but friendship soon turns into obsession. When Susan begins to distance herself, something inside Georgie snaps and he embarks on a killing spree, with Susan as the next target. The cast includes Billie Whitelaw, Phyllis Calvert, Barry Foster, Frank Finlay, and Salmaan Peerzada.
This Australian daybill poster is a stone lithograph, so it features rich colors and very fine detail. It is unrestored and folded as originally issued in near-fine condition with creases of varying sizes along the edges and along portions of the fold lines. The paper has folded back and is not missing along the edges. There are no pinholes, stains, writing, or other flaws.
This movie's controversial nature led to a prologue being added during post-production, explaining that there was no connection between Mongolism and psychopathic behavior. Alfred Hitchcock cast Barry Foster and Billie Whitelaw in Frenzy (1972) after watching their performances in this movie. The whistling theme from the score was resurrected in Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill: Vol. 1 (2003). Elle Driver (Daryl Hannah) is whistling it as she enters the hospital. As well as this, it was also used in various episodes of American Horror Story (2011) Season One.
