THE JUGGLER is a 1952 novel about a former Jewish celebrity juggler from Europe, who had spent much of World War II incarcerated in a Nazi concentration camp. After his release from the camp, he emigrates in 1949 to the new state of Israel, arriving on a refugee boat into a land he has never known, with no friends and family, surrounded by strangers. Escaping from the refugee camp to which he had been assigned, he wanders the countryside, attempting to confront the fears and terrors of his past, causing fear and terror to others whom he meets.
The author MICHAEL BLANKFORT also wrote other novels, short stories, plays and screenplays, such as the 1954 film "THE CAINE MUTINY" with HUMPHREY BOGART and the 1953 film "THE JUGGLER," starring KIRK DOUGLAS, which he had adapted to the screen from his own novel. In 1950, he had served as a "front" for blacklisted Hollywood screenwriter ALBERT MALTZ for the screenplay of the film "BROKEN ARROW," featuring JAMES STEWART and JEFF CHANDLER.
