1918 Notgeld Money Error Note - 2pc Set from Gorlitz, Germany // Alignment Error

Notgeld (German for "emergency money" or "necessity money") refers to money issued by an institution in a time of economic or political crisis. The issuing institution is usually one without official sanction from the central government. This occurs when state-produced money is not available from the central bank. Issuing institutions could be a town's savings banks, municipality and private or state-owned firms.

This lot will include 2 individual notgeld notes, printed in 1918, from the German town of Gorlitz (in the state of Saxony). Bills will be in Extra Fine (XF) condition. One note has an alignment error; the image was printed out of alignment and was not centered when the paper was cut. This can be seen when comparing it to the other note. Documented in "World Paper Money Errors" (Morland Fischer) pages 167-174.
